Who we are

Renaissance Foundation is a specialist London-based youth charity providing support to young carers and young people with chronic illness, aged between 12 – 18. Our vision is that no young person should be held back because of their caring responsibilities or health condition. It’s our mission to empower young carers and patients to develop core skills, prepare for successful transition to adulthood and reach their full potential using world-class inspirational opportunities.

The role

What will you be doing?

You’ll bring deep knowledge and expertise of working with young people in educational settings directly into our boardroom. Your insight will be invaluable in helping us develop and strengthen partnerships with schools, local authorities, and education trusts.

We need your expertise to advise on effective strategies for engaging schools and breaking down barriers to referral. You’ll help us understand why some students who would benefit from our support aren’t being referred, and co-design practical solutions to improve access. Your understanding of school systems, culture, and the pressures educators face will inform more effective outreach and engagement approaches that resonate with busy school staff.

Crucially, you’ll provide strategic guidance and oversight on our safeguarding provision, which is our most important responsibility. You’ll ensure we maintain compliance with safeguarding legislation and best practice principles, keeping our young people safe. You’ll review and advise on incident management and safeguarding reporting, helping our team navigate complex situations with confidence and care.

What are we looking for?

You will have:

  • Passion and genuine interest in our cause, commitment to our mission and our values
  • Practical experience and expertise working with marginalised young people
  • Experience working in, or strong links with, schools or other education providers
  • In-depth understanding of safeguarding best practice
  • Strong communication skills, ability to listen to young people and to represent and articulate their perspectives

You may have:

  • Experience of partnership working between education, health and social care sectors
  • Knowledge of funding streams and opportunities to support education and skills initiatives
  • Previous experience of charity governance or non-executive leadership
  • Experience of small, start-up charities
