Renaissance Foundation is a specialist London-based youth charity providing support to young carers and young people with chronic illness, aged between 12 – 18. Our vision is that no young person should be held back because of their caring responsibilities or health condition. It’s our mission to empower young carers and patients to develop core skills, prepare for successful transition to adulthood and reach their full potential using world-class inspirational opportunities.
The role
What will you be doing?
Our Board is seeking to appoint a Finance Trustee, a vital role as we move into the next stage of our charity’s evolution. Our Board currently brings together a mix of experiences, with a shared commitment to improving opportunities for young Londoners. However, we lack deep financial expertise at a strategic level, and this is where we see our new trustee playing a transformative role.
As a small but ambitious charity, we rely heavily on the strength of our Board’s collective knowledge. We recognise the enormous value of drawing on expertise from professionals in specific fields, and nowhere is this more crucial than in financial management and strategy. Although we benefits from a dedicated volunteer financial accountant who maintains our general ledger, produces management accounts, and continuously strengthens our control processes, we have no in-house finance resource within our team. This makes the new trustee role a truly hands-on position, one that combines governance oversight with active contribution to key financial functions.
The new Finance Trustee will take the lead on overall financial management and control, working closely with both the Board and senior volunteers. They will guide the production of the annual budget and longer-term financial plans, helping us plan sustainably for growth. They may also play a central role in overseeing the statutory accounts, ensuring that our reporting remains robust, transparent, and compliant.
Beyond the numbers, this trustee will be a key contributor to strategic decision-making, helping shape the charity’s priorities, assessing financial risks and opportunities, and ensuring our limited resources deliver the greatest possible impact. They will also provide support to our programme and fundraising teams, assisting with budget development for funding applications and advising on costings for new initiatives.
As our Finance Trustee, you’ll not only help strengthen our financial resilience but also directly enable more young Londoners to benefit from the life-changing opportunities Renaissance Foundation provides.
What are we looking for?
You will have:
- Experience in senior finance roles, with experience of all aspects of financial management
- Executive or Board level experience, with a good understanding of governance
- The ability to think strategically and contribute to the charity’s strategy and development
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
You may have:
- Experience in a charity or not-for-profit
- Experience of small or start-up organisations
