The role

Role: HR/Legal Advisor

Purpose of the Role
The HR/Legal Advisor will support our organisation by offering guidance on human resources practices and/or legal compliance to ensure that we operate ethically, transparently, and in line with relevant policies and regulations. This role is ideal for a volunteer with professional HR or legal experience who is willing to share their expertise to strengthen our organisation as we start to grow and employ staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.

  • Support with drafting or reviewing contracts, volunteer agreements, or policies.

  • Offer guidance on employment law, workplace rights, or safeguarding responsibilities.

  • Assist in creating and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and compliant work/volunteer environment.

  • Provide input on conflict resolution and grievance processes, if required.

  • Stay informed of relevant legal and HR developments and share updates with the team.

Skills & Experience

  • Professional background in HR, employment law, or related legal field.

  • Strong understanding of workplace policies, compliance, and ethical standards.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to provide clear, practical advice to a small nonprofit team.

Commitment

  • Flexible, depending on availability—estimated 2–4 hours per month.

  • Remote or hybrid involvement, with occasional meetings (online or in-person).
