Who we are
We’re the people in purple here to help every student at UWTSD have the best time at university.
From application to graduation, we are right next to them for their whole student journey. Through our services, we’ll help students connect, discover who they are, and find their place at UWTSD and the world.
We are a proudly student-led organisation with 15,630 members – (every enrolled student is automatically one of our members). We want them to think of us as their friend who’s been there an
The role
We’re looking for someone with experience in HR management (CIPD desirable) and a strong commercial awareness. You should be confident mentoring students, aligned with our democratic and student-led values, and able to exercise independent judgement. Strategic thinking and an understanding of trustee responsibilities are essential, alongside awareness of societal inequality.
You’ll be a collaborative team member who brings ideas to boost engagement and develop student-led activities. Our Board culture is fun, forward-thinking, and innovative – we want trustees who challenge convention, take considered risks, and help drive continuous improvement, creating an energised and empowering environment for all.
As the Trustee for People and Culture, you’ll commit to at least five Board meetings per year (mostly online, with one in-person in June). Work with fellow trustees to set strategy, policy, finances, and organisational direction, and to agree strategic objectives and review the performance of the Chief Executive. Take part in recruiting trustees and staff, complete induction and training, and prepare fully for meetings.
Monitor performance through KPIs, project reports, and management accounts, and contribute to relevant sub-committees (including around three People & Culture Committee meetings annually). Be available for appeals when required, promote the Students’ Union and act in its best interests, and ensure it operates effectively, responsibly, and in line with all legal and charitable requirements.
