Our views: Step on board

Source: British Land

Through Step on Board, I’ve joined the Board of Hubbub, a behaviour change charity that inspires people to make healthier, greener lifestyle choices. This is giving me the chance both to add real value in an area I’m passionate about and to gain board level experience.

We all have an obligation to contribute to society and this role provides me the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the charity sector. Here at British Land, we’re encouraged to get actively involved in our communities, with up to four days’ paid time off for volunteering each year. Last year, the company introduced Step on Board, an external programme that helps employees into non-executive board roles at not-for-profits.

When the programme was presented, I jumped at the chance to use my skills to make a greater positive impact, while gaining board experience, something that I don’t yet have in my professional life.
