Who we are

The Giving HOPE (Hold On, Pain Eases) Project is a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to reducing trauma for mothers and babies separated around birth due to safeguarding concerns.

Grounded in the Born into Care research led by Lancaster University, the project promotes trauma-informed, compassionate practice that prioritises keeping families together wherever it is safe to do so.

When separation is necessary, it advocates for it to be handled with dignity and care. Through its HOPE Boxes, it supports health and social care practitioners in delivering more sensitive, responsive care that centres emotional wellbeing.

Guided by research and lived experience, the project works to influence meaningful change in policy and practice to improve outcomes for families.

The role

Non-Executive Director (Finance)

Giving HOPE CIC is seeking a Non-Executive Director with financial expertise to join its Board on an unpaid basis. This strategic governance role supports the organisation’s mission of assisting mothers and babies separated at birth due to safeguarding concerns and improving compassionate service responses.

The postholder will strengthen financial governance, support strategic decision-making, and provide occasional advisory input as the organisation grows.

Key responsibilities include: oversight of financial position, risk and sustainability; support for budgeting, cashflow and forecasting; contribution to strategic planning; and ensuring strong financial governance and CIC compliance in collaboration with the accountant and senior staff.

Time commitment: approximately 2–4 hours per month, including a monthly finance meeting, quarterly Board meetings, and occasional additional input.

Applicants should have senior finance leadership experience, strong Board-level financial oversight skills, and a collaborative, values-driven approach. Experience in the charity or CIC sector is desirable but not essential.
