Who we are
The Hawk and Owl Trust is a national UK charity (1058565) founded in 1969 and is dedicated to conserving owls and birds of prey in the wild and increasing knowledge and understanding of them.
We create and manage nesting and roosting sites and advise on feeding habitats for birds of prey; carry out practical research; and welcome visitors to our wildlife reserves in Norfolk and Somerset, education centres and outreach projects.
The role
As a Trustee of the Hawk and Owl Trust, you will help shape the charity’s future and support our work to protect birds of prey, owls, their habitats and the people who care about them.
Trustees are responsible for ensuring the Trust is well governed, financially sound and focused on delivering its charitable aims. You will contribute to strategic planning, decision-making and oversight of our conservation, education, engagement, research and reserve management work.
We are looking for thoughtful, reliable and committed individuals who can bring sound judgement, integrity and a collaborative approach. You do not need to be a wildlife expert, but you should share our commitment to protecting birds of prey and inspiring people to value the natural world.
We are particularly interested in trustees with skills or experience in areas such as charity governance, fundraising, communications, marketing, digital engagement, conservation, land management, education, HR or organisational development. Board experience is helpful but not essential.
Trustees are expected to attend Board meetings, read papers in advance, contribute constructively to discussions and act in the best interests of the charity. Depending on your skills and interests, you may also support sub-committees or specific areas of work such as fundraising, governance, public engagement, reserve development or long-term planning.
This voluntary role offers a meaningful opportunity to use your experience to strengthen the Trust, support staff and volunteers, improve decision-making and help secure a better future for birds of prey, owls and their habitats.
We welcome applications from people of different backgrounds, ages and communities, including those who may not have previously considered becoming a trustee. Fresh perspectives and lived experience of barriers to accessing nature, volunteering, education or conservation would be especially valuable.
By joining our Board, you will help the Hawk and Owl Trust remain resilient, effective and ambitious in delivering its mission to protect wildlife, restore habitats and inspire more people to care for the natural world.
