Who we are
Playaway provides developmental programmes during the Summer holidays that are tailored for children with complex motor disorders. They are professionally run by a multi-disciplinary group of specialists to ensure that each child can access the full range of activities arranged. Most importantly the programmes provide a fun interlude in what for our children can be a lonely time during the Summer holidays.
The role
We have a small team of Trustees who oversee the running of 4 programmes each year to provide much needed support to those with complex motor disorders. Details of these programmes can be found on our website www.playawaychildren.co.uk .
The work is not onerous and we meet c 6 times a year – the majority of time online – with one face-to-face meeting. This is an ideal role for someone who is looking to become a Trustee for the first time. All Trustees play a shared role in developing and supporting all the programmes we run. The programmes themselves are run by 3 programme leads who we employ.
Our Trustee Board is structured to provide 2 parent-facing Trustees who provide a focus for parents of the children and young people who attend the programme and one Trustee that provides a focus for Staff matters and HR.
The charity has been running since 1990 and the programmes are well developed but we need fresh ideas and varied voices to ensure we continue to thrive. You do not need to be a specialist in disability or developmental programmes.
