Who we are
Glaucoma UK is a membership charity passionate about making sure that people living with glaucoma have a say in how and where their care and treatment are delivered. We provide a host of support services to help people at all stages of their glaucoma journey, but we’re also here for the professionals too – providing support and resources and helping them keep in touch with what matters most to people with glaucoma.
The role
Help Shape the Future of Glaucoma UK
Glaucoma UK is the only UK charity providing support exclusively to people living with glaucoma. We provide trusted information services and advice, as well as raising awareness of the condition and funding vital research.
We are now seeking to appoint two new Trustees to join our Board and help guide the charity through an exciting period of development.
As a Trustee, you will use your professional expertise, strategic thinking and good judgement to help ensure that Glaucoma UK continues to deliver its charitable objectives and make a meaningful difference to the lives of people affected by glaucoma.
We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience in any of the following areas:
· Optometry (specifically in a Hospital or Secondary Care setting)
· Finance
· Legal
· Pharmacy
· NHS Commissioning
We welcome applications from individuals with senior leadership, governance or specialist professional experience who are passionate about improving outcomes for people living with glaucoma.
What does the role involve?
Trustees share responsibility for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity. Working alongside fellow Trustees, the Chief Executive and senior team, you will:
· Contribute to the development of organisational strategy
· Ensure the charity is well governed and financially sustainable
· Support effective decision making and risk management
· Act in the best interests of Glaucoma UK’s beneficiaries
· Serve as an ambassador for the charity and its mission
Trustees normally attend four Board meetings each year, together with occasional committee meetings, strategic discussions and charity events.
Why join us?
This is an opportunity to:
· Make a lasting difference to people affected by glaucoma
· Help shape the future direction of a national charity
· Work alongside an experienced and committed Board
· Use your professional expertise to support an important cause
· Develop your own governance and leadership experience
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences and communities.
This is a voluntary, unremunerated role, but reasonable out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed.
If you are passionate about improving the lives of people living with glaucoma and believe your skills and experience could strengthen our Board, we would be delighted to hear from you.
