This article follows a recent event hosted by our sister company Russam, The Big Decision: Strategy That Delivers, held at the RSA and bringing together senior leaders for a focused discussion on how strategy is turned into meaningful action.
We were delighted to welcome an engaged and thoughtful audience, alongside speakers Jason Atkinson and Dr Alan O’Neill, whose insights challenged conventional thinking around strategy development and execution.
A key theme from the session was the need to move beyond static strategy documents and “PowerPoint that gathers dust”, and instead focus on embedding strategy as a continuous, practical discipline within organisations. The discussion resonated strongly with attendees, particularly around the importance of execution, accountability, and leadership alignment.
Conversations throughout the evening explored:
- The gap between strategy design and delivery
- Leadership accountability in execution
- Embedding strategy across teams and organisations
- Decision-making under pressure and uncertainty
What stood out most was the shared recognition that effective strategy is not a one-off exercise, but an ongoing process of action, adaptation, and leadership discipline.
The energy and openness in the room reflected a strong appetite for practical, real-world approaches to strategy—where ideas are not only discussed, but tested and applied.
We would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion. Your engagement helped create a valuable and thought-provoking session.
We look forward to continuing the conversation and seeing how these ideas are implemented in practice.
